Swimwear Specialty Retailer Everything But Water Joins with LUNGevity Foundation

Everything But Water, the largest women's specialty swim and resortwear store in the United States is donating five percent of all sales from Black Friday (Nov. 25) through Cyber Monday (Nov. 28) to LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's largest lung cancer nonprofit. The five percent donation will apply on all sales, including gift cards, throughout the retailer's 58 stores and online at

This will be the third year Sheila Arnold, CEO and President of Everything But Water, has promoted store initiatives to benefit LUNGevity Foundation. She took on the battle against lung cancer because she believes it is important to address issues that affect women and women's health. Lung cancer kills more women than any other cancer – almost twice as many women die of lung cancer than breast cancer. Arnold also has a special connection to the issue because her mother died of lung cancer and her brother, Jerry Sorkin, was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in 2007. Sorkin serves as vice-chair of LUNGevity Foundation's Board of Directors, and is a never-smoker.

"LUNGevity is grateful to Everything But Water for supporting us with a national sponsorship as we battle against the country's number one cancer killer," said LUNGevity Foundation President Andrea Stern Ferris. "The disease impacts thousands of families just like Jerry and Sheila's across the nation. I encourage you to support the store in its very personal crusade to help stop this horrible disease."

Everything But Water chose the timing of its contribution – the kickoff to holiday shopping and one of the year's busiest shopping periods – to highlight its commitment to the cause, to help bring attention to the disease, and to capture the spirit of generosity that marks the holiday season. Throughout the weekend, Everything But Water's expert sales associates will help shoppers find perfect getaway looks and gorgeous gifts. Customers can also shop, and learn more about the partnership, at www.everythingbutwater.com.

"We are passionate about raising awareness for such an important issue," said Arnold. "Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer and affects too many families, including my own. Far too many men and women are stricken with this disease. I learned about LUNGevity Foundation's powerful work after my brother was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in 2007. We are committed to the cause and see Black Friday weekend as an ideal opportunity for our customers to show their support while they shop."

Lung cancer takes a terrible toll on our nation. More than 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer and more than 150,000 die from the disease each year. Over the course of their lives, one in 14 Americans is affected by lung cancer. Lung cancer can afflict anyone regardless of age, gender, smoking history or skin color. And because there is no widely available, effective early diagnostic test for the disease, less than 16 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer survive more than five years.

Teen Scene

Here's a review of the biggest trend of '01 (doesn't it seem like just yesterday that you just had to have them?):

  • Neo-prep. Preppy was a big hit last year, but the look wasn't stuffy or overly country club-ish. Hip chicks donned preppy ribbon belts, cord blazers, plaid minis, khaki trousers, rugby tops, Dr. Scholl's, the pink-and-green look, and fitted oxfords.
  • Denim. Embellished, studded, embroidered, graffiti-ed, jeweled - denim totally rocked on and off the runways this past year. Fresh styles for '01 included fitted blazers, corsets, raw-hemmed homemade-looking minis, and extremely low-waisted & lace-up looks.
  • Military/Americana. Flag-adorned jeans & tops and lots of neutral khaki and olive garb was huge the past year, somewhat inspired by the runway (Catharine Malandrino, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs), but more of a nod to 9/11. Low-waisted slouchy olive pants, red, white, and blue sneaks, military-esque denim jackets, even flag-like prom dresses were among all of the patriotic apparel.
  • Boots. They were definitely the choice footwear for fall/winter. Length, color, and style didn't matter: it was purely a personal style choice. Stiletto-style, pointy-toe, punky eighties-style ankle length, versatile calf-length, brightly colored - they all were fab!
  • DIY. Personalization -with graffiti, rhinestones, safety pins, studs- was a hip look this past year. You could purchase this trend at a store (everyone from Louis Vuitton to Old Navy was doing the graffiti thing) or do your own thing (a Bedazzler was a must-have possession for every DIY fashionista).
  • Retro Wedding Dresses

    Retro Bridal Dresses

If the style quotient of the TV series 'Mad Men' has completely enamored you, then opting for a retro themed wedding dress may be on your wish list. We give you vintage inspired wedding dress options that you can match with your retro themed wedding dress desires.

    Ball Gown
Your influence for a wedding dress made to resemble a ballroom gown can vary, from Grace Kelly's gorgeous wedding gown worn in 1956 for her wedding to the Prince of Monaco to Princess Diana's gown that she wore for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles. All of us dream of a fairy tale princess wedding and what could be a better option for such a wedding than a ball gown. For a traditional wedding, opt for a gown with a full long skirt and well-defined waist. Opt for a long train and veil. You could opt to play around with your neckline. Some popular necklines include the boat neck, a v-neck, and the off-shoulder. Lace and sequins could be beautiful additions to embellish and accessorize your ball gown.

    Empire Waist Gown
Opting for a retro wedding dress means you are opting to bring back the fashion of the sixties and the seventies. And if there was one dress pattern that was synonymous with the era, it was the empire waist. Choose a wedding gown with an empire waist and full, long skirt. If you do not fancy a big skirt, then you could choose to narrow down the silhouette of the skirt but ensure that there is some flow to it. This style can be perfect for pear shaped women who are also tall. You have the freedom to play around with the top of the dress. Opt for a one shouldered Grecian look or a bustier corset top.

    Sheath Column Dress
If you want to go back further in time to the fashion of the forties and the fifties, then the wedding dress that you opt for needs to be designed in the sheath dress style. If you want to wear a sheath dress though, you need to have quite the enviable figure. A sheath wedding dress is extremely slim fitting and wraps itself around your every curve. For a sheath dress opt for a modest neckline that balances the sexy allure of the dress. You can choose to accentuate your waist by wearing a belt around the waist. Opt for a short train. You can also wear gloves with a sheath wedding dress.

    Tea Length Dress
If you are a 'Mad Men' fan, then you know the style of dress that we are talking about. No style of dress is more synonymous with the 1950s then the tea length mid calf dress, and if you are opting for a retro themed wedding, then this may be the dress to opt for. The skirt of such a wedding dress will be voluminous and choose to have a layer of crinoline in your wedding color under the skirt. Opt for sleeveless or capped sleeves for an authentic look but you could also choose to have a strapless tea length wedding dress. Ensure that you wear a spectacular pair of shoes with this dress as that is bound to draw attention.

    10 Top Hairstyle Tips

    1. Don't go to the salon unprepared to request the hairstyle you wish to wear.

Many hair consumers mistakenly believe that their hairdresser can work miracles, can read their mind and can instantly pick out the best hairstyle for them.

There are many variables to consider when it comes to selecting a hairstyle and it is up to the hair consumer to do their homework and research their own hair options. Face shape, lifestyle and budget all play into the final style selected.

    2. Don't select a hairstyle or haircut that is impossible to maintain at home on your own.

While many Hollywood celebrities have a expert hairdresser at their fingertips to make sure their tresses look paparazzi perfect, most consumers have to deal with their hair without those constant hairdressing services.

    3. Don't skimp on proper hair care or hair styling products

Some hair care lines sold in drugstores may work for some types of hair and some styles. However, if you have highlighted or chemically processed hair or require added volume or control, the less expensive non-salon lines might not do the trick and could make styling your hair a constant challenge.

Consider your options. You may be able to compromise by buying both mass market and high quality products and alternate between them for best results. Or maybe your hairstyle requires high quality hair care lines. Be honest and don't work hard to achieve a great style only to undermine it with products that don't support it.

    4. Don't use the wrong hairstyling tools

There are many different tools available to create fabulous styles. These tools range from blow dryers and curling irons to hot rollers and round brushes. Make sure you use the proper tools when re-creating your style.

If you're unsure what tools to use, ask your hairdresser to give you a lesson at the salon. It may be impossible to copy the style your professional hair consultant designed for you if you don't deploy the same styling techniques, products and tools.

    5. Don't overuse hairstyling products

Less is more when it comes to utilizing styling products. If you overdo the gels, mousse and hair sprays you risk developing product build-up on your tresses which can make your hair misbehave.

    6. Don't copy celebrity hairstyles without caution

Keep in mind that Demi Moore and Jessica Simpson can wear just about any hairstyle their heart desires because they have professional hairdressers custom designing those styles to maximize their best features and minimizing their less attractive.

What looks fabulous on Demi and Jessica may not look the same on you unless you truly look exactly like them, have the same type of hair and wear the exact shade of hair color and cosmetics. Set fair expectations and you won't be disappointed.

    7. Don't ignore high end cosmetology schools as hairstyling options

Some of the higher end schools such as Toni & Guy and Paul Mitchell employ talented and seasoned professionals as instructors. The schools have very high standards for the quality of hairdresser they turn out. As a result, a high end cosmo school is a great place for getting some hairstyling work performed, even if it is just a slight shaping and trim to maintain your high priced style from a different salon.

In fact, a great option is to have your hairstyle created at a top notch salon but have maintenance performed at the cosmo schools to average out your hair style maintenance costs.

    8. Don't be a slave to hair trends

Hairstyles change constantly as fashion change. Instead of being a slave to hair trends, find a hairstyle that works best for you and maintain that base look. If you want to update your tresses to keep them looking fresh, opt for a change in hair color, highlights, lowlights or slight texture. If you look great in a bob, keep that as your basic style but work with your hairdresser to keep it looking contemporary.

    9. Don't ignore hair accessories as a fabulous hairstyling option

Some hair consumers mistakenly believe that hair accessories are only applicable for young people or certain types of hair. This is not correct. Any hair accessory can be adopted for any age, hair type, texture, fashion or style. Use these fabulous fashion accessories to instantly change your look without a trip to the salon.

    10. Don't count out hair extensions as a way to achieve different hairstyles

Whether you want a temporary hairstyle change that a clip-in hair extension can offer or a more permanent change for 3-4 months, hair extensions have come a long way towards affordability and high quality.

Sleep Well and Wake Up Early
Get yourself a beauty sleep! Sleep early and sleep as much as you need, so that you can wake up fresh. Also, get up early in the morning and start to get ready. Keep some extra time in hand, as it is your first day, you will need some extra time to groom yourself and to check yourself out.

    Set Your Hair
Either wash your hair a night before or get up early in the morning and do so. Keep sufficient time in hand to set and style your hair. Either just give your hair a normal blow dry or set them with the help of your mom (or anyone else).

Things to Do - The Day School Starts

    Makeup
I will give you a few beauty tips. You should apply light makeup for school. Use a foundation to camouflage blemishes, use a bright colored lip gloss, eyeliner and apply a light blush. If you don't know how to apply make up, practice beforehand.

    Accessorize
You can wear small jewelry pieces like earrings, bracelet and a neck-piece. They cannot be big as they do not fit in with the uniform-look.

    Smell Good
Smelling good is very important. Keep a deodorant in your bag all the time. You will need it after the mid-day and also after playing a sport or dancing.

    Confidence is the Key
Dress-up well, smell nice and apply make up but eventually looking good finally lies in confidently carrying yourself. Being confident is a mental state. Keep your goals set and feel the start of a fresh day at school, happily. Be yourself and love it.
